Theatre in the heart of a cosmopolitan city
Building of Új Színház in Budapest
Új Színház (New Theater) stands in the heart of Budapest, the Hungarian capital, in the neighbourhood of the Hungarian State Opera House, near Andrássy street, which has been recorded as part of the world heritage. Fate and history of the secessionist building from the 20th century is just as eventful and full of ups and downs as the life of the country and the city. The Parisiana Saloon started to operate in the art-deco style building raised under the plans of Béla Lajta in 1909. Their greatest achievement was giving back the building its original look and atmosphere in an architectural style never seen before, for which they won the Europa Nostra certificate of merits in 1998. Today the visitors can see the façade of the building designed by Béla Lajta next to the neo-baroque luxury of the auditorium designed by László Vágó in 1921.
